It shows the significance of the process, the same thing implies to software development, the process in software development means a lot when there are risks like missing a bug in the code or falling behind the deadlines. 

Due to pandemic, every organization working remotely, and at this time, managing the whole development process is quite difficult. In the office, it was easy to assign tasks and give feedback just by going to their team member’s desk but managing the same thing with the remote work required more effort to complete the same functions. 

Since March, like many companies, the Appsinvo team has been working from home. Although we can visit the office, the majority of us prefer to work from home. Our team has frozen many opportunities while working remotely and managed the project management through many approaches that need to change in the day to day project management. 

Therefore in this article, we have decided to share some tips that helped us to tackle the most common challenges of remote project management

Challenges in Handling Remote Projects

Unclear Responsibilities

For developing a website or an app it requires at least 5 team members with different responsibilities. In some cases scenario, these roles may be very identical for instance sales managers may require reports to the client about the team’s progress despite the team manager already sent it. This type of situation not only causes misunderstanding but also waste the team’s time and efforts. 

Lost information

During the feedback session, when the team shows their assigned work outcomes, missing significant information often happens. When communication via video conferencing, someone can easily divert from the discussion. Miss important information may happen when the crucial points are not written down in the form of a summary meanwhile the discussion. 

Poor communication

If you are unable to share your idea in a better or efficient way, do not expect great results. Even a small thing or feedback becomes challenging when you work remotely. Poor communication in the team leads to hurdles and many organizations are facing this.

Effective Tips to Manage Remote Projects

Share document information

Whenever any project our team seizes and initiates from the inception phase, our project managers develop a project chart. This chart includes brief information about the project key points, purpose, milestones, budgets, stakeholders, and other significant details. 

Then the project manager builds a separate feed and uploads the related and required documents on the task management software, so any team member who is in the project can easily access the documents and learn about the project details without any hurdle.

Define responsibilities and roles

Determining and classifying the ownership of the project at the discovery phase at the very start of the software development life cycle. Try to write down all the responsibilities and roles of the team members as per the project specifications.

To attain more clarity about the roles, project managers will create a mind map after keeping the area of responsibilities and overall project development process. In this way, we are able to avoid unnecessary duplication of tasks and boost a teamwork atmosphere. 

Establish performance metrics

Once assigning the role and responsibilities of each team member, it is time to establish the performance metrics. By separating the project into the features and its implementation for a time frame, we plan a performance metric it is known as iteration. So, once the iteration starts, the team and the project manager interact about the possible hurdle, current tasks and deliver the iteration on time. 

Provide clear feedback

For efficient management, while working remotely, all stakeholders and team members must need to share clear and honest feedback on time. It is always good to arrange meetings on some time so team members can share their concerns and insights about the respective project.
