89% of online users are active on social media every day, while 22% and 12% are active on OTT content as well as gaming apps, respectively.

According to a research issued on Wednesday, Indians spend 194 minutes every day on social media sites. It went on to say that on average, 46 minutes are spent on online games and 44 minutes on over-the-top (OTT) platforms.

The “New Age Digital Media Consumption: A Survey of Social Media, OTT Content, and Online Gaming” report, produced by Delhi-based NGO The Esya Centre and IIM Ahmedabad, was based on data collected from 2,000 respondents and in-app data from 2.06 million users across 143 mobile apps.

It went on to say that 89% of online users are active on social media every day, while 22% and 12% are active on OTT content and online gaming apps, respectively.

“While all users in our sample were active on social media once a month or more,” it kept going, “the corresponding figure for OTT and online gaming apps was only 60% and 40%, respectively.”

in regards to the data, more than 75% of individuals believe that internet gaming leads to the development of many types of talents, including number-crunching and statistical skills, sports research skills, and physical ability.

Furthermore, smartphones and tablets accounted for 100% of social media consumption. For OTT content, 68% used smartphones/tablets, 4% used laptops and personal computers, and 28% used televisions or home theatres.

In online gaming, smartphones and tablets were used by 89% of participants. It was followed by 7% using laptops and PCs and 4% utilising television.

Concerning the cost of internet access, the report stated that social media is mostly free for users. However, they pay between Rs 201 and Rs 400 per month for OTT content and less than Rs 100 per month for online gaming.

in accordance to the research, if the costs on these platforms are raised by 30%, 71% of gamers and 17% of OTT audiences will likely cut the amount of time they devote to these services.

It was discovered that 28% of users believe online gaming is vital for their work chances and 50% believe it is essential for skill development.

Furthermore, internet gaming is employed for a more diverse range of reasons, including amusement, skill development, and commercial or job opportunities.
