From the last few years, the Dark theme has gained the attention of many smartphone users and become the most requested feature amongst the users. At the 2019 Google I/O conference, Google has announced the dark mode of the whole operating system. After that, it just becomes the trend among the companies and the app development companies. If we saw positively, the dark mode theme has a lot of benefits. Users can read easily in the low light also reduce the eyestrain, lessen battery consumption. So nowadays, the dark theme is becoming essential for every app and the app development companies too. So today we are come up with some effective ways that help the designers out there to design dark mode for the mobile apps.

Effective Ways to Design Dark Mode

Provide a healthy user interface experience both the biggest platform Google and Apple are focussing on their dark mode designs and standards. If you don’t pay needed attention to the dark mode design, the outcome will have a poor experience. Therefore, we have decided to provide you some ways that help you to design a dark mode for your app effectively without getting confused.

Prohibited using Saturated Colors

We all know saturated colors look amazing on bright surfaces but they become vibrant against the dark surface and it creates difficulty for the users to read the text. Hence designers should try to use the desaturated colors as the main color as they feature better readability on the dark theme.

Build Distant Surfaces Darker

If the layer is near or closer to the user, the surface area will become lighter, a light source is cast from above in this model that is analogous to an ambiance. If the layer is at distance, it gets less light. The designer can be tempted to design the present light theme while designing a dark theme. Because the closer surfaces could be dark and distant one could be light and it is good for the users’ eyes.

Decline the usage of Large Blocks

With the light theme, we can use the light and bright colors, it suits with the theme, but it does not suit well with the dark theme, bright color large blocks are more focused among all the other necessary elements and it is not suitable for the dark theme.

Don’t use Pure Black color

Just imagine a screen that has only two colors black and white!! It will give you the vibes of black and white old-fashioned TV and in this, you can catch the attention of your user. So, go and try using the dark grey as the main color for the dark theme elements. Using the dark grey color not only reduces the eyestrain but also makes it easy for you to stare at shadows on a grey surface as compared to black.

Think about your Design

It is very important to take a look into the appearance of the UI in both Light and dark themes and make changes in the design as per the requirement of the theme, also test your design in both themes with beaming lighting.

Allow users to use as per the choice

Allowing to switch your phone between light and dark mode is exciting, isn’t it? This can be a poor experience for your users because through this you are controlling your users and not allowing them to make decisions for themselves. Therefore, let your users decide for themselves when they want dark mode or when not. Allow your users to choose the mode manually as per their needs.

Conclusion

There are many benefits of using the dark theme that makes it more popular amongst smartphone users. The simple way of reusing color and inverting shades can enhance the eye strain that makes it tough to read in dim light & even break data and visual hierarchy.
