Apple introduced Siri, a personal virtual assistant back in 2011 along with the launch of the iPhone 4S. Since then, Siri has been updated and improved by Apple, and it is now available on all Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and even the Apple Watch.

When it comes to personal AI, particularly generative AI, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is light years ahead of the competition. This has caused corporations such as Apple and even Google to rethink their AI services, with Apple reportedly working on adding natural language production capacity to Siri, according to a 9to5Mac article.

Natural language generation AI services can generate human-like material. Apple is rumoured to be testing the more competent Siri on Apple TVs running tvOS 16.4 beta, which is programmed to create jokes only. Siri with natural language generation might be available on devices including Apple iPhones, iPads, and Macs in the coming days.

Unlike ChatGPT or GPT-4, which can create textual material, Apple’s enhanced Siri will provide improved speech output that is supposed to sound more “human” than ever before. It’s also possible that Apple may confine this capacity to Siri, and it won’t be as powerful as OpenAI’s GPT-4. There has been no news from Apple on the deployment of this feature as of yet. Apple, on the other hand, is expected to reveal it off at its next WWDC 2023 developers conference.

While Apple has chosen the Apple TV as the initial testbed for natural language generation, it has been rumoured that identical code may be found in iPhone, iPad, Mac, and HomePod software betas.

Apple's Siri may soon have ChatGPT

Natural language generation would allow Siri to answer to requests and queries in a more human manner, but it’s crucial to remember that this isn’t a hint that Apple would update the digital assistant to ChatGPT levels of competence.

According to 9to5Mac(opens in new tab), Apple is instead attempting to incorporate the improved technology into the existing Siri system.

The present Siri is intended to take inquiries and then react using a database of known responses or to get material from certain sources. As a result, Siri has struggled in several situations, frequently being unable to handle requests that it should be able to handle.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, may draw on a considerably bigger pool of data, having been trained on data from across the internet and permitted to respond depending on its findings.
