OpenAI, which is owned by Microsoft, has announced that third-party developers may now use an application programming interface to incorporate ChatGPT and Whisper into their offerings and services (API).

With the addition of the ChatGPT and Whisper models to the API, developers now have access to cutting-edge language and speech-to-text technologies, according to the company’s blog.

“ChatGPT API customers may expect continual model enhancements as well as the opportunity to select dedicated capacity for more control over the models,” the company said.

OpenAI also identified a few firms that are utilising the new APIs, including Snap’s recently released My AI function.

OpenAI is offering 1,000 tokens for $0.002 for the ChatGPT API, which it says is “10x cheaper than our previous GPT-3.5 models.”

“Developers that utilise the gpt-3.5-turbo model will always obtain our recommended stable model, while still having the ability to choose a specific model version,” the company explained.

Moreover, developers have complete control over the instance’s load, as well as the option to activate features like extended context restrictions and the ability to pin the model snapshot.

On the other hand, using Whisper API, the business stated developers may use it to transcribe audio at $0.006 per minute.

Whisper is a speech-to-text model that the firm released as open source in September of last year.

“We think that AI can give amazing possibilities and economic empowerment to everyone, and we believe that allowing everyone to develop with it is the best way to achieve that,” it continued.

Meanwhile, OpenAI’s Whisper API is a hosted version of the company’s open-source Whisper speech-to-text model, which was released in September. “We produced a model, but it actually was not enough to cause the full developer ecosystem to build around it.

“The Whisper API is the same huge model that you can obtain open source, but we’ve optimized to the utmost. It’s significantly faster and more convenient.” The transcription API will cost developers $0.006 per minute and will enable “robust” transcription in many languages as well as English translation.
