JioCinema, the streaming arm of broadcaster Viacom18, has reduced prices for its premium content, including Hollywood movies and TV shows, with subscription plans starting at Rs 29 per month, the company announced on April 25.

The over-the-top (OTT) platform reduced the price by two-thirds, with the previous subscription pricing these offerings at Rs 99 per month, or Rs 999 per year, for simultaneous streaming on up to four devices. The plan did not exclude advertisements.

“With 4K streaming, best-in-class audio, offline viewing, and no device restriction all at a focused on customers pricing is sure to democratise access to quality entertainment for all of India,” Kiran Mani, chief executive officer of Viacom18 Digital.

It includes online and offline 4K viewing of foreign films, TV series, and children’s programming on any device in five languages.

According to the company, the plans go into effect immediately and provide ad-free content as well as access to exclusive series, movies, Hollywood, children’s, and TV entertainment on any device, including connected TVs.

The platform also offers a “family plan” for Rs 89 per month, with the added benefit of four simultaneous screen access.

Existing JioCinema premium members can receive additional benefits from the “family plan” at no additional cost.

The platform’s ad-supported offering will continue to include free sports content, such as the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), as well as thousands of hours of entertainment content.

The platform’s premium members have access to the biggest global series and movie premieres from Hollywood thanks to partnerships with the world’s biggest studios – Peacock, HBO, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Top titles like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Oppenheimer, Barbie, and many others will now be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Marathi.

Last year, Viacom18 Media and Warner Bros Discovery Inc. entered into a multi-year agreement to stream the American company’s exclusive content in India, including the hugely popular Succession and The Last of Us.

Additionally, members will receive early access to content from Nickelodeon, Colors TV channel, and the full lineup of Colors local language channels. In fact, serials will be made available to members even before they air on television. Furthermore, streaming access to over 20 Viacom18 Network TV channels will be provided.
