Google extends Gemini AI app support to older-generation Android devices

Google is extending support for its Gemini AI app to older Android devices. According to the Google Gemini app page on the Play Store, the app is now in keeping with devices getting Android 10 or higher.

Google released a dedicated app for Gemini AI for Android smartphones in February to replace its existing Google Assistant. However, at the time of launch, the app was only compatible with Android 12 and later. Google has updated the minimum requirement section of the Gemini app on the Play Store, informing users that the app will now run on Android 10 and Android 11.

It is worth noting that the “Google Help” blog for the Gemini app still states that it requires Android 12 or later.

Previously, it was reported that Google is developing a new feature for the Gemini app that will enable the AI-powered assistant to interact with third-party music streaming services such as Spotify.

According to Android Authority, Google has added a new “Music” option to the Gemini Settings page, allowing users to “choose preferred services used to play music.” However, the option leads to a blank page, implying that the feature is still developing.

Once fully integrated, the Gemini AI assistant will likely be able to play music from third-party apps like Spotify, Amazon Music, and others using voice commands.

Google has not yet provided any details about the feature’s rollout plan; however, it is expected to be available to users in the coming weeks.
