Snap Inc announced on Wednesday that its artificial intelligence chatbot My AI will now be able to respond to users’ messages with a fully AI-generated image, as the owner of photo messaging app Snapchat expands its AI work.

My AI’s ability to respond to users with AI-generated images will first be available on Snapchat+, which has 3 million subscribers, according to Snap.

Snap made the announcement at its annual Partner Summit. The company intends to use the technology to accelerate the development of augmented reality (AR) features, which are computerised images superimposed on top of real-world photos and videos.

In recent months, the tech industry has focused on generative AI, which can generate original text or photos in response to prompts. Snap’s My AI chatbot, which can assist users with everything from writing poems to searching for information, was built with OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology.

If you’re not familiar with My AI, it’s a ChatGPT-powered experimental chatbot designed to be a personal sidekick that can answer trivia questions, offer advice, plan trips, suggest recipes, and more. While the bot has previously only been available to Snapchat+ subscribers, Snap has announced that My AI is now available to all users globally.

But that isn’t all. Along with the increased availability, My AI has gained a slew of new features.

My AI will also use the power of generative AI to create and send snaps back to you when you send it a snap, allowing users to maintain a visual conversation in addition to a textual one.

Apart from that, Snapchat reminded users at the event that it has made several behind-the-scenes improvements to My AI, allowing them to have a better chatting experience. The bot now follows community guidelines more strictly and even considers the Snapchatter’s age.

Algorithm for Lens Carousel Improvement

The algorithm for the Lens carousel is being improved. The new algorithm will now recommend Lenses based on the unique preferences of Snapchat users.

After Dark narratives

You no longer have to check everyone’s story at night to see what they posted. Snaps posted after 8 p.m. will be shared as After Dark stories so that everyone can see what happened late at night.

Reminiscences of Friendship

Snaps are usually deleted by default in chats, but we do save memorable or important Snaps and messages. Snapchat has now updated the app with Friendship Flashback, which displays a collection of Snaps and messages that you and your friend saved in a chat.

AI Generative Lenses

Snapchat has introduced a new generation of Lenses that are powered by Generative AI. Snapchat users worldwide can now use the Cosmic Lens to transform themselves and their surroundings into an animated sci-fi scene.

Bitmoji gains dimension

Bitmoji is gradually transitioning from a cartoony to a 3D appearance. Bitmoji and Snapchat avatars will now be more detailed. Snapchat is also working with Marvel to customise Bitmoji to look like Marvel characters.

Snapchat invests heavily in augmented reality.

Snapchat users can now try on new cosmetics and outfits from major retailers. However, the company announced a new business last month, AR Enterprise Services (ARES), which provides retailers with tools that allow their customers to try on those items at home – in apps other than Snapchat.

Other recent Snapchat updates

Snapchat is rolling out new features to improve voice and video calling, stories, and Snap Map. You can now use calling lenses to appear in one frame with your friends and play games while chatting. You can also use the ‘After Dark’ story feature to share your late-night exploits and join communities.
