Google Pay allows existing customers to create a UPI Lite wallet within the same app, which can be loaded up to Rs 2,000.

Google Pay, the country’s second largest Unified Payment Interface (UPI) provider, has officially implemented support for UPI Lite payment, which allows users to make minor purchases without entering a pin. When compared to traditional UPI payments, UPI light technology enables consumers to make rapid payments even during peak hours.

Within the app, users can build personal UPI Lite wallets and keep a balance of up to Rs. 2,000, which can be filled up to twice each day. The Lite account allows for transactions of up to Rs. 200.

UPI Lite enables users to make a large number of small-amount UPI payments rapidly and without regard for transaction limits. This payment solution provides users with a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Existing Google Pay users can create a UPI Lite wallet within the same app, which can hold up to Rs 2,000. It also allows users to make transactions of up to Rs 200 without the need for a pin. There is at present a constraint where one can only load up to Rs 2,000 twice a day, limiting the spending limit on the Google Pay UPI light to Rs 4,000 per day.

UPI lite payment was initially launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in September 2022 and is presently compatible with over 15 major public sector and private banks. Paytm, PhonePe, and BHIM were the first UPI payment apps to offer UPI lite payments.

  • Go to the Google Pay app’s profile page.
  • Select UPI Lite form the payment methods settings menu.
  • Continue by adding money (up to Rs 2,000).
  • To pay with UPI Lite, simply pick UPI Lite as the account to pay with and click on pay PIN free.
  • This will immediately send the funds to the payee’s bank account.
