Elon Musk’s company Twitter has announced a new paid API (Application Programming Interface) platform with three access tiers: free, basic, and enterprise. The announcement was made on Twitter by the company’s Twitter Dev account, which stated, “Today we are announcing our new Twitter API access levels!

We are really thrilled to give additional information about our self-service access.” Elon Musk has surpassed Barack Obama to become the most following person on Twitter.

Furthermore, according to the firm, anybody who subscribes to any level receives free access to the Advertising API. “Introducing a new type of Free (v2) access for write-only use cases and those testing the Twitter API with 1,500 Tweets/month at the app level, media upload endpoints, and Login with Twitter,” the firm announced. Twitter launches new API access tiers

The Basic (v2) access tier was introduced for “hobbyists with 10,000 GET/month and 50,000 POST/month, two app IDs, and Login with Twitter for $100/month.

Furthermore, the micro blogging platform invited organisations or large-scale commercial initiatives to apply for its Enterprise tier in order to receive managed services, comprehensive streams, and access tailored to their specific requirements.

Twitter officially published its new API pricing structures on Wednesday, after weeks of dithering. These three tiers include a basic free level designed primarily for content publishing bots, a $100 per month basic level, and an expensive enterprise level. According to the firm, each level of subscription includes free access to the Advertising API.

The new API offering appears to be a cash grab. The free tier only allows for 1,500 post requests per month and access to Login with Twitter. The free tier, dubbed “for amateurs or students,” allows for 50,000 post requests and 10,000 read requests per app every month. Developers that want to access additional data will need to apply for enterprise access, which is said to cost $42,000 per month.
