Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the majority of apps running on Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset will be iPad versions rather than new software designed for visionOS. According to Gurman’s Bloomberg report, apps listed for iPad will be automatically available in the visionOS app store unless the developers opt out.
His report also stated that many popular streaming services, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify, have decided not to provide a dedicated app for visionOS, dealing a significant blow to Apple, which is marketing its upcoming mixed-reality headset as an entertainment device. Other key developers, such as Google and Meta platforms, have also opted out, requiring Vision Pro users to access these services via web browsers
According to Gurman, Apple isn’t redesigning all of its headset apps. Apple’s own Podcasts, News, Calendar, Reminders, and other apps will run in their iPad versions on the headset, with no redesign or optimization.
The report claims that developing software for visionOS is costly and that some developers would prefer to hold off on developing a new app until after the Vision Pro headset has proven to be a success.
Another reason is that a small percentage of developers believe their application is not well suited to the gesture- and eye-heavy visionOS mixed-reality environment. In addition, some developers are dissatisfied with Apple’s App Store review guidelines, costs, and other procedures and don’t want to assist the business in promoting its product.
Apple has confirmed that the Vision Pro headset can support 1080p AirPlay, which allows you to mirror your vision in Apple Vision Pro to any device that supports AirPlay, such as a Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV (2nd generation or later), or a smart TV that supports AirPlay.
