Twitter has a history of limiting search results. Similar actions were taken with Substack links earlier this year by the Elon Musk-owned microblogging service.

The much-anticipated cage match between Musk and Zuckerberg may not happen anytime soon, but it appears that the tech billionaires have turned to virtual combat instead. Several Twitter users are now complaining that the Elon Musk-owned microblogging service is restricting results when they try to search for Threads links.

This makes it challenging for Twitter users to locate user profiles on the recently formed site called Threads and start a conversation there. A technologist called Andy Baio used the operator “url:threads.net,” but Twitter produced no results, according to a TechCrunch story.

Twitter will display results that include profiles of people who have a Threads link in their bio or those talking about the recently established platform even if you search for “threads.net” without the operator, but you won’t be able to see any links to Threads.

It turns out that there is a straightforward fix. You only need to type “url: threads.net” into the search field to see results and links to Threads on the microblogging platform.

While it is yet unknown whether Twitter is purposefully obstructing links to Threads, this is not the first time that has happened. After Substack revealed that it will launch its own service called Notes earlier this year, the microblogging platform began restricting how users may interact with it. Many claimed they couldn’t like, retweet, or even comment on posts with Substack links.

While Substack claims the issue was fixed a day after the scandal began, it is unclear how long Twitter would continue to block Threads connections.

The fastest-growing app in history, Threads has surpassed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which took about two months to reach the milestone, according to a recent announcement by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
