YouTube revamps TV app to deliver a rich experience

More people are watching YouTube on their smart TVs, with daily viewership exceeding 1 billion hours. YouTube is planning to revamp the user experience to provide a more streamlined content consumption experience. With the latest version of the YouTube TV app, the company offers a “lean back” experience that allows for a rich and distraction-free TV content experience.

The updated YouTube app now reduces the video playback window, allowing users to watch the video while accessing additional features such as descriptions, comments, and browsing similar products to those featured in the video. In addition, the YouTube TV app will provide additional information, such as live sports scores, when available. It also allows users to watch the video while reading through the comments. In the current version of YouTube, the opening comments cover a portion of the video, reducing the overall content consumption experience.

The update also simplifies access to various controls like play, pause, rewind, and fast forward with an improved UI. These features were added based on user feedback to focus attention on the video, simplify it, and provide a more interactive user experience.

Accessing comments on the YouTube TV app has become much easier. However, users are still unable to add new comments, which can only be done using a smartphone or computer. Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), recently announced the launch of a video-centric app for televisions to compete with YouTube, which is expected to provide a YouTube-like user experience.
