WhatsApp for Android now prevents screenshots from being taken of profile pictures

Screenshots of contact profile photos are no longer permitted on Meta’s instant messaging app, WhatsApp. The instant messaging app WhatsApp is currently rolling out an update for Android users that prohibits taking screenshots of other users’ profile images. Android users worldwide, including those in India, are beginning to receive the feature, despite the company not having announced the change.

WhatsApp: What’s new

Now, you cannot take screenshots of the users’ profile pictures on WhatsApp for Android. If you try to, WhatsApp will show no error or warning message but capture a blacked-out picture in place of the profile image. Important to note, the screenshot is disabled only for the full profile picture view. You can still take a screenshot in the profile view mode, which shows the profile picture in a small circular pop-out window.

Is it compatible with iOS on the iPhone?

The fact that WhatsApp for iOS still permits full-screen screenshots of profile pictures suggests that the update is currently only available for Android smartphones.

This feature enhances the privacy settings on WhatsApp that allow you to control who can see your profile picture. Users can choose to restrict who can see their profile picture by going to the Privacy settings and selecting the Profile Picture section.

Whatsapp launched a feature last month that lets users search a chat by date filter. Viewers have the option to see links, media, and chats that were shared during a particular conversation date. Apps for iOS and Android both have this feature. It also functions with desktop, Mac, and WhatsApp web.
