Meta is introducing a new Mixed Reality programme in India, with a $250,000 grant available to up to five developers and entrepreneurs.

Meta today announced the introduction of a new Mixed Reality Programme in India, with a grant of $250,000 (roughly Rs 2,05,07,050) to Indian companies and developers to build apps and experiences on the company’s Presence Platform.

The Meta Presence Platform is a set of machine perception and AI capabilities for the Meta Quest Platform and the company’s Metaverse vision. The fund aims to support research and the development of an ecosystem of extended reality technologies in the country.

As part of the scheme, a group of up to five Indian engineers and new businesses will get a monetary award, as well as private mentoring and guidance from Meta Reality Labs experts.

Up to five Indian developers and businesses will receive a financial award as well as coaching and guidance from Reality Labs professionals in the corporation as part of the programme. The programme will also provide them with the opportunity to join Meta’s developer ecosystem and submit their product to the Quest App Lab. The company further claims that at the end of the programme, selected startups would be introduced to “leading” local venture capital funds.

This statement from Facebook’s parent company comes only a few days after Apple revealed its entry into the mixed reality space with its Vision Pro headset, which the Cupertino-based tech giant says will be available in 2024.

According to Sandhya Devanathan, Meta Vice President for India, India is on track to become the world’s largest developer base by 2024, and the new fund and programme are an awareness of the need to support innovation and emerging technologies in the country.
