Google is testing an AI-powered “Help me write” feature on its Chrome browser in the United States. The feature, which is only available in English, is currently in the experimental stage and will be available to Chrome users enrolled in Google’s Experimental AI program. For reference, the “Help Me Write” feature is already available in Google Messages, Gmail, Docs, and Keep with some variations.
According to Google, Help me write on Chrome enables users to draft messages, leave a well-written review, or submit a formal inquiry on the web. When the feature is enabled, users can rewrite existing texts, ask the writing assistant to generate long-form content, edit responses, and more.
How to opt-in for an experimental AI program on Chrome
Open the Chrome browser on your computer.
Select More > Settings > Experimental AI.
Within the Experimental AI menu, navigate to “Try out experimental AI features” and then enable. Help me write.
Select Relaunch.

Visit a website using the Chrome browser and right-click on any open text field.
Choose Help Me Write from the drop-down menu.
Enter your prompt in the “Help me write” box. The prompt may be a phrase, question, instruction, or sentence.
Select Create to generate a response.
To update or edit the response, highlight the text and navigate to Help me write.
To generate another response, select “Retry.”
To edit your input, select Edit, and then click Update.
Because the feature is still in the experimental stage, the response generated may be inaccurate. Users can also rate the writing suggestion in the Help me Write box by clicking the thumbs up or down icon. By selecting thumbs down, users can provide written feedback to the company.
The company has not provided any information on the feature’s availability in other regions. However, once the experimental stage is completed, the Help me write writing suggestion tool is expected to be available in additional languages and regions.
