In response to an upsurge in spam calls from unknown numbers on WhatsApp, Meta has created a new tool that allows users to mute such calls on the platform automatically. This new feature, according to the Instagram Meta Channel, will make WhatsApp even more private and give users more control.
This feature has been under beta testing for some time, and the stable version is now accessible for users of Android and iOS smartphones. The software will automatically quiet calls from unknown numbers if you activate it in the privacy settings section.
Here’s how to mute WhatsApp calls from an unknown number:

Check that you have the most recent version of WhatsApp installed on your phone, or upgrade it from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. With the stable version of WhatsApp, we were able to use this feature on phones such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Realme 11 Pro+.
- Open WhatsApp
- Click on the kebab menu in the top right corner
- Go to settings
- Click on Privacy
- Select calls
- Enable – Silence Unknown Callers
Users can activate this feature by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Calls and selecting “Silence unknown caller.” While calls from unknown numbers will be immediately hushed, they will appear in alerts and the app’s call list, according to WhatsApp. This is useful if you want to check later to see whether it came from someone you know but don’t have their phone number saved in your contacts.
When you receive a call from an unknown number, the phone will only display the number and the words silenced unknown number.
Almost every week, Meta adds new features to WhatsApp. WhatsApp channels were recently introduced in select areas, and the business also added the option to edit sent messages for up to 15 minutes.
