Meta has announced the release of an online version of its Threads programme. Users can use the web app to post, like, reshare, and comment on Threads, as well as peruse their feed and navigate between tabs. According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, it will be available in the next days.
Threads is Meta’s response to Elon Musk’s Twitter, which has come under fire for its moderation procedures and algorithmic biases. Threads asserts that it provides a more democratic and transparent forum for individuals to express their views and interests.
The app was released in early July and rapidly surpassed ChatGPT’s previous record-breaking debut. However, due to data protection restrictions, the app is still not available in the European Union.
Threads’ web version will not, however, include all of the capabilities included in the mobile app. The online app will not allow users to change their profile, send posts to Instagram DMs, or access some sophisticated settings. According to Meta spokesperson Christine Pai, the web app is intended to provide a minimal degree of functionality for customers who prefer to utilise social media on their desktop browsers.
According to several analytics organizations, the debut of the web app comes as Threads’ user engagement is declining. Meta hopes that the web app will bring in new users and keep them engaged with the platform. The business is also aiming to improve the search capability and introduce more categories and subjects for Threads users to explore.
