WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to disable the ability to receive messages from third-party messaging apps.

WhatsApp announced earlier this month that it will test third-party messaging app integration in order to comply with the recently passed Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union.

For about two years, Meta’s messaging platform has been testing functionality that allows users to exchange messages, videos, images, and files with people on other platforms.

Some users may find it useful to be able to send and receive messages from other messaging apps, but others may wish to disable this feature. In the event that the user decides to disable cross-platform messaging, their chats will remain in read-only mode until they are manually deleted, and they will not be able to send or receive messages from other platforms.

The WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.2 adds a new toggle that allows you to disable third-party chats within the app, according to a recent report by WABetaInfo. It appears that the developers are also working on a feature that will allow users to choose which apps can interact with WhatsApp, allowing them to personalize it to suit their needs.

The feature will likely not be available to users for a few weeks to several months, though it appears to be under development at the moment.

Over the past few weeks, WhatsApp has released a number of new features, including the option to look up previous messages by date and a fact-checking chatbot that aims to reduce false information produced by AI.
