Google's  Connected Flight Connected Flight Mode,' which modifies Airplane Mode on Android devices

Google has been reportedly working on a new feature called ‘Connected Flight Mode,’ which will automatically alter Airplane Mode on Android devices.

According to a recent Google patent, ‘Connected Flight Mode’ will engage ‘Aeroplane mode’ whenever it detects you are in flight and disable it when you land. However, unlike the present implementation of Airplane Mode, which shuts all radios automatically, the new capability can toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

According to the patent, the feature may be able to modify Wi-Fi settings to correspond to the kind of connection that the airline will permit. Additionally, if it notices that the device battery is running low or that the network connection is unstable, it may disengage from the network. Another thing to keep in mind is that when your smartphone goes into “Connected Flight Mode,” updates and background app refresh will not be possible.

Google explains that the function works by taking numerous aspects into account, such as journey history and airport Wi-Fi, and determining if you are inside a plane by distinguishing changes in pressure and noises. Depending on the flight stages, the feature can also activate various radios, except cellular networks.

However, it is uncertain whether ‘Connected Flight Mode’ will ever make its way to Android devices because firms such as Google file a plethora of patents, but only a small percentage of them actually see the light of day.
