WhatsApp is getting a new option that will allow users to disable the recently announced ‘Instant Video Messages’ function.
WhatsApp just added the ability for users to send and receive short video messages. It’s called ‘Instant Video Messages,’ and it works similarly to how you share voice messages, allowing users to send a short video message with the click of a button.
However, it appears that the functionality is annoying for some users because it uses the same button used to send audio messages, with customers reporting that they were inadvertently sending video messages. As it turns out, WhatsApp has taken user comments into account and is testing the ability to stop the functionality.
Instant Video Messages may be simply turned off in the most recent WhatsApp beta, claims WABetaInfo. When the toggle is turned off the bottom-right microphone icon on the screen returns to its usual state, allowing users to rapidly share voice notes. Turning off the toggle, however, does not stop other people from sending you a video message.
Open WhatsApp and press on the three-dot menu that appears in the upper right corner of the screen to disable “Instant Video Messages.” Go to ‘Settings’ in the app and select ‘Chats’ from the list of options. ‘Instant Video Messages’ is a toggle that you can access from this page. The feature will be turned off.
It might take some time before the toggle is available on your phone because the feature is currently only available to users of WhatsApp for iOS 23.18.1.70 and WhatsApp for Android 2.23.18.21. It will be added to the stable version of the app in the coming days.
