As part of an early access project, Google has began releasing SGE, a generative AI capability comparable to the GPT-4 driven new Bing.

Google’s AI-generated search results, driven by its Bard, take a different approach. The search engine behemoth has now begun testing a new, less obtrusive layout, which is presently available to a limited number of users.

According to Glenn Gabe’s tweet, the ‘SGE Lite’ (Search Generative Experience) will not automatically trigger a huge block and will provide more buttons for users who want to access further information.

Glenn also states that Google will not make this capacity available to the public unless it is revenue neutral or positive. The search engine is currently one of Google’s most profitable products.

Given that the new Bing hasn’t been particularly effective in boosting its market share, Google will be extremely cautious in how it introduces new generative AI capabilities to its search engine. On Google, we were also able to try out the new lite version of SGE.

It is also worth mentioning that Google must operate massive language generative AI models on its servers in order to support the new AI-powered SGE experience. Furthermore, AI-generated content may be inaccurate due to constraints such as hallucinations.
