Google started its Search with Generative AI project for Indian users on Thursday, including several characteristics that are specific to the nation and that it says would make search “simpler and smarter than ever before.
Users who sign up to test the feature through Search Labs will be able to access it on Chrome and the Google app, while Google native search will remain unchanged. The Search Generative Experience (SGE), which is already accessible in other areas, will be offered in English and Hindi in this market.
In states where Hindi is required, users will be able to switch between the two languages. Other portions of India will only receive English. Given the high number of new Internet users, a text-to-speech option is also being added here. A voice search feature will also be added soon.
SGE, according to Google Search, is another evolution” of search based on Google’s advances in generative AI. By bringing the power of generative AI directly into Google search, it enables entirely new types of questions that you never thought search could answer and transforms the way information is organized to assist in sorting through and making sense of what’s out there.
He hopes that this would allow new Internet users, who are sometimes overwhelmed by the volume of material available online, to “understand a topic faster, uncover new viewpoints or insights, and get things done more easily.
Acknowledging the importance of information quality, Kumar stated, “With any change we make to search, we maintain our high bar for quality to uphold the expectations of billions of users who truly trust us.” Our work on this new experience is based on our ranking systems and all of the skills we’ve gained over the last two decades in deeply understanding information quality.”
The precautions, he claims, are built into the product to the point that it will initially be a “more constrained, less fluid approach” to “make the model more fluid over time.
